While the promise of spring is just around the corner, it can be hard to align ourselves with ideas of sunshine and warmth as winter seems content to have us remain in its hold a little while longer. If you are like most, the dreary days added up can do a number on your feelings of ambition, alignment and connectivity to Source and your inner voice. Creativity may feel dulled, energy low and your fire may need a little spark.

With Aries season afoot, it’s an excellent time to re-ignite the fire within and activate your sacral chakra, your creativity, passion and lust for life. Here are some amazing methods and tools to activate your sacral chakra, shake off winter and re-ignite your inner force.

The Activity – Box n’ Burn

As dedicated as we are to finding alignment through yoga, sometimes forcing stagnant energy out of you with high intensity activity can be a welcome change to yoga’s flowing and coaxing method. Activities such as boxing style fitness classes, spin classes and even a visit to a studios like Barry’s can awaken your body and inner being from its winter slumber and get you pumped up for life.

At the moment, we’re loving Drop Boxing – a new boxing fitness studio opened on Spadina in Toronto. With motivational quotes embedded tastefully in the decor, you can feel yourself start to motivate from within upon arrival. Once you’re in the Drop Room, your 50 minute class goes by in a flash of fire, music and pleasurable muscle burn. You’ll leave feeling accomplished, strong and excited to come back.

The Stone – Tiger’s Eye

We’ve talked before about how Citrine is an amazing stone for activating and connecting with your sacral chakra. When our sacral chakra’s are suppressed, it is difficult to access our passion, our joy, our creativity, our ability to manifest abundance and even our connection to our sexual selves. Another stone to connect with when you need a fiery boost is Tiger’s Eye. This stone is said to give the boundless energies and unwavering focus of the tiger. Meditating with Tiger’s Eye placed close to your sacral chakra can work to activate your inner fire as well as impart needed waves of self-compassion. As the winter has been harsh on our earth, so we too can be on ourselves when we are feeling tired and dull. Accessing the bright and warm energies of the Tiger’s Eye is an excellent way to step into the next phase of your journey.

Brands and corporations are making a beeline for our pockets, working to capitalize on what is problematically deemed the “wellness trend” – and the problem starts exactly from the phrase “wellness trend”. The fact that a mass collective in society has removed our blinders and are eliminating the idea that hustle, stress, never-ending performance, unattainable body and beauty standards and material wealth are the only measurements of a successful and fulfilling existence does not constitute a trend, so much as it does a period of enlightenment.

In fact, reducing the time we are actively dedicating to acts of wellness and self-love as a “trend” is anti-intelligent and diminishing to othose who are putting our personal well-being ahead of burnout and bad purchasing decisions. This reduction of the movement to something as flippant as a trend stems more from fear than it does ignorance.

Take the “personal care” industry as an example. The more we focus on what big corporations are putting in our “personal care” products, holding them accountable for selling us toxins and chemicals that are bad for us, and asking whether or not they have been tested on animals or use child labour in their supply chain means that companies need to start being better. And being better typically means taking a bottom line hit. And so the same companies that are responsible for selling us ineffective chemical-ridden items from one product line are launching others that are marketed to the wellness, planet-conscious crowd (did someone say Unilever’s Love Beauty Planet?).

Further to, the more we are collectively becoming aware of what is causing us to be ill of body, mind and spirit, and taking dedicated action to rectify this, the less corporations and big pharma can continue to sell us cures. A solid sense of self through the ongoing practice of mindfulness will eventually lead a rational individual to the understanding that a $12 mascara from a company that tests their products on animals in China will not fundamentally make us a more beautiful or powerful person. An expensive spa day once a year does not a wellness practice make.

It isn’t just corporations who are fearful of “wellness”. Most of us who have shared about an improved lifestyle after adapting a routine  meditation practice or a plant-based diet have endured our share of rolling eyes or the predictable “…but bacon!” statement from friends.

But the truth is a person who has put their wellness before a work hustle is less likely to contract modern day stress-induced afflictions that require big pharma to knock us out at the end of a stressful day, or cause our muscles to seize from the pressure of being in constant fight mode, our immune systems to shut down, and our sense of self to be so utterly destroyed that we are weakened and seduced by false promises of beauty, health and happiness, drawn to the florescent lights of Shoppers Drug Mart like moths to the flame.

Certainly, any rational individual understands that essential oils, meditation and palo santo cannot cure even a common cold. However, investing routinely in your personal self-care through practices that reduce stress on both the mind and the body enables us to face what modern day challenges come our way with a stronger sense of who we are as individuals, why we are here on this earth (really, it is to be happy) and what really matters in this life. Investing in our health ensures our immune systems are stronger so we fall ill less often and can enjoy life as it is meant to be enjoyed. Investing in our minds and our hearts through meditation, reflection, yoga and aromatherapy opens ourselves to understand that happiness will not be found in a new electronic or pair of shoes and therefore we do not need to run ourselves into the ground for capital gains and material wealth.

Let us be mindful that corporations will work to leverage consumer trends into their own profits. Let us protect our right to nourish our beings with love and self-care. Let us push against a system that insists we be weak, dull and quick to part with our money for superficial cures to problems we do not have. Let us be well.

As we close off another year, it can be difficult to ignore the posts showing up on our feed about new year’s resolutions. The dialogue is often around goals to increase productivity or improve physical fitness and health, enhance our focus and performance, create more wealth, travel to new destinations etc. It can be exhausting and, in fact, highly counterproductive towards achieving our true desires and dreams.

This year, instead of focusing on acquiring abundance in the form of material possessions or a certain level of physical attractiveness, we invite you to release ego-driven ideals of what your new year should look like and go inward with these five easy ways that will guarantee increased happiness, abundance and inner peace in 2019.

1.Meditate

The idea of meditation can be extremely intimidating for many. As a society, the majority of us have subscribed to a never-stop, always-hustle attitude. In fact, we move so quickly that we never stop to talk about how this is not a sustainable existence. If we are constantly answering the demands we have placed on ourselves, as well as allow ourselves to give into constant distraction, we miss out on spending time with the most important person in our lives; ourselves.

Meditation gives us time to connect with ourselves on a deeper level, allowing us to listen to our body and our soul’s needs, wants and desires. We spend so much time working on our exterior that we never stop to hear what we actually want, believe or need. Meditating is the single best gift you can give yourself to increase your sense of peace and personal happiness in 2019. If you’re new to the practice, start with five minute sessions. A simple Google search can get you started on the right track.

2. Reduce Your Animal Consumption

The less we consume animals in our food, beauty products and clothing, the better we are able to connect with them on a higher level. A deeper connection and respect for animals (not just household pets) will automatically increase your ability to connect with your natural environment and view the gifts of nature from a new perspective. When we stop finding ways to conquer living beings for our personal use, we are able to see a line between our existence and the existence of non-human beings. In fact, if you stop eating animals such as cows and pigs, you are likely to find you connect deeper with your dog. Further to, consuming something that has been tortured to get on your plate means that you are actually consuming pain. When we eliminate or reduce instances of consuming unnecessary pain, you are guaranteed to find that your heart feels lighter and your ability to connect with nature increases.

Just like starting a meditation practice, the idea of reducing animal consumption can be intimidating. Don’t feel like you can eliminate animals from your diet? Reducing your consumption is an excellent way to put the concept of animals as food into perspective. When we eat less , we respect them more. The Meatless Mondays trend is a great start.

3. Practice Gratitude

Practicing gratitude daily is the number one way to increase your sense of abundance. You will find your life is full of everything you want and need when you stop and make a point of expressing gratitude. Focusing on what we want naturally produces a mindset of lack and scarcity, ensuring we continue to attract situations into our life that leave us wanting.

The less we speak of what we want and the more we appreciate what we have, each day will seem like a gift of the utmost abundance. Turning our daily tasks into instances to express gratitude is an excellent way to incorporate the practice seamlessly into your life. For example, instead of saying “I have to work out today”, say “I am grateful for the ability to condition my beautiful body that acts as a vessel for my existence”. Instead of saying “I have to go to work” say “I am grateful that I have a job that allows me to have a roof over my head and food in my fridge”. Instead of saying “I need to drink more water” say “I am grateful that I have water to drink”.

We are all much more abundant than we think. As we are living in a day where Instagram tells us what we should aspire to want, it is important to remember that often times, we have an abundance of what would deem anyone a very blessed person.

4. Put Down Your Phone

Our phones work to create a constant connection to a world of advertising, articles of non-necessary information that is shaped to look like news and celebrities who’s job it is to make us feel less than in order to buy things we do not need to be happy (beauty products, clothes, diet pills, cars, etc.) The scroll has become an automatic pass time. We are actively allowing our precious time on this earth to be wasted day by day, looking at pictures of people from high school, or people we don’t even know. It is no wonder we feel tired, drained, and a need to constantly be on the move.

So in 2019, put down your phone. Give your mind, your body, your eyes a much needed reprieve. Set your own standards of aspirational living and GO LIVE! Go outside, stop taking pictures of everything, embrace the day. Leave the phone at home.

If you want to monitor your phone time, here are some great apps that will help you track your phone usage.

5. Don’t Buy Anything

Ok, buy things you NEED, like food. But stop buying things you don’t need, including new clothes, excessive personal care products and entertainment items. Take the start of the new year as an opportunity to clear out your closet of anything you don’t need anymore. Be ruthless. Let go of emotional attachments to old items and make a very conscientious effort to stop purchasing new items, because more often than not, you don’t need what you think you want. Do this any way you need to. Unsubscribe your email from your favourite companies that promote unmissable sales. Stop agreeing to go on shopping trips. Don’t go to the mall. Turn off commercials.

If you go through your household and rid it of everything you no longer need, use or want, you will find you immediately feel lighter. Further to, if you stop purchasing things you don’t need, won’t use or even really want, you will find your bank account is more abundant. We work so hard for our money, it is important to respect it. By making mindful purchasing decisions, we will automatically increase our financial security.

The Practice of Circling: Why, When and How - Group Meditation Image

The art of circling has been around for centuries. Traditionally practiced amongst woman, circling is a prominent ritual within our everyday lives, infiltrating the celebrations and gatherings of people of all ages and genders. In fact, many of us circle regularly, whether we realize it or not. However, as more and more women are finding their ways back to their ancestral roots and exploring how we can connect deeper with each other, our bodies and the earth, moon and stars, the art of traditional circling is starting to make a comeback into our monthly practices and routines. It only takes a quick scan of your local Eventbrite listings to see that women are circling regularly in your community. Businesses like Soul Sisterhood  and The Rock Store host regular full moon and new moon circle sessions, and there are hundreds of women in metropolis cities across the country who act as experienced and knowledgeable hosts and guides for these powerful events.

We spoke with C.N.H.P Reiki, Women’s Creatix and Spiritual Director Natalie Kehren, founder of Holistic World Healing to learn more about the roots of this sacred practice.

How long have women been circling and where do the roots of this practice stem from?

The art of women circling is ancient, and in my opinion, triumphant. There is evidence dating as far back as 800 CE. You can see it’s roots across every culture, old and new. Gathering around fire pits on the May long weekend, to book circles or all the way back to women menstruating in Red Tents. It’s roots rest as long as women have been alive and menstruating. The art of menstruating itself is sacred and believed to be a time of deep, authentic spiritual truth, cleansing & birthing. It is the cleansing of the old to make room for the new. And as women, we are blessed to have the opportunity, supported by universal spiritual energy, to do this every 28 days. It allows us to grow faster, house more healing energy and bring it out into the world through our consistent dying and birthing process. The learning and unlearning. The sharing and the shedding. That itself is true empowerment… it is truth. And it connects us all, each and every woman existing. It amazes me every time I think about it.

Why do we circle on the New Moon and the Full Moon specifically?

Each moon brings something different as it is connected to the Universal sky and astrological components happening all at once. Yet, the underlying theme remains for each the New Moon and Full Moon— and often, each woman has one that is her favourite between the two.

The moon’s cycle is 28 days- and right now you connecting the dots in your mind that our menstrual cycle is 28 days as well. This is the connection and their is no coincidence about it.

The New Moon is all about cleansing, turning inward to see what needs to be released, transformed and brought to the surface. This is the very time your physical body tends to be menstruating, releasing, detoxifying & transforming- if aligned with the moon’s cycle. (Please do not worry if you do not bleed during the New Moon, your journey is blessed always). This is a strong time for releasing exercises, rituals and supporting the cleansing you and your fellow sisters are going through. It is a deeply intuitive time, therefore you may crave to be indoors and inclined to self-care-which is a great way to help you body, mind & soul through this time.

The Full Moon is all about an increase in energy and the time when your body is ovulating—you are most fertile at this point in your cycle and that is supported through the Moon’s energy. You feel sexually empowered and excited. It is a time for manifestation rituals, affirmations and using this increase in energy to magnetize what you’d like to see in your life, in yourself and in your world. It’s an affirming time. You may also be more social and crave to get out and be around people, or try new things.

Why is this practice particularly one that is female-focused?

It is female focused because of the 28 day cycle connection. We are so deeply effected by the moon’s cycle. This was recognized long ago, has been and is felt every day.

Do our wombs/cycles play a part in circling?

Yes, absolutely. As we are aware the physical role of the womb is to grow, nurture & birth new human life. This is true in symbolic & energetic methodologies as well. The womb is the centre of our creativity, our intuition, our truth. It is where we hold the historic roots of our past and the past of all women. It burns in pain each month to release trauma and toxic energy living there from this life time, and others. For our souls and the souls of our sisters.

It is the birthplace of new ideas, of creative ventures, of our soul’s truth. It is SO important our wombs are able to be free. That they are expressed, loved, noticed & taken care of. By connecting to our wombs, we can truly move mountains at an unstoppable rate. It’s empowerment backed by universal life force. It’s truly incredible.

We are a force, connecting everything and everyone around us through the connection of our wombs and the 28 day cycle. Supporting and reenforcing our transitions each moon is so very powerful. You may be sitting in a circle in Toronto, Canada yet imagine the other thousands of circles going on around the same time world wide, under one moon.

Do you see now the power of women?

What can someone expect from their first circle experience?

This is always my favourite. I remember my first circle-it was extremely uplifting, supportive and actually, felt like home. Someone can expect to experience a level of support felt from each women in attendance, as well as the moon itself. It sounds crazy, I know- yet it is an energy that is so familiar you will feel it’s embrace and welcome it with open arms.

A circle is typically 1-1.5 hours long and each is different depending on the woman hosting it— which is the beauty of it. You will sit in circle of course, some are more talkative and social, while others can be more intimate and a private space for deep reflection. It depends on the energy of the moon that month and the woman’s lineage/style behind it. Our souls hold the roots of different cultures, therefore, find a circle of women that speaks to you! Keep going until you find the perfect one. Just set that intention and watch it come to life.

Law of Attraction: Why Practice Gratitude Blog Image

Alex Woods

Letting go of bad habits is a huge obstacle when it comes to personal development. People often consider habits to be bad when they are present in their physical manifestation; drinking too much, eating poorly, smoking, not exercising and so on.

Rarely do we consider the bad habits of the mind, In other words, how repeated negative thoughts can affect our feelings, influence our actions and ultimately develop into real life manifestations i.e. weight gain, exhaustion, lack of energy and focus and an inability to show up to task in our finest form.

A common bad habit of the mind is to focus on what we believe to be lacking in our lives, such as money, career, love, the ideal body etc. However, once we begin consciously working with the universal Law of Attraction, we will find how powerfully our thoughts affect what shows up in our life. Therefore, by constantly focusing on what we believe we are lacking, we are calling in more of the same; more debt, more weight gain, more troubles in love, etc.

Your Thoughts and Feelings Are Stronger Than You Think

The Law of Attraction helps us create our own life experiences through the power of thought and internal vibrational alignment, aka how we are feeling. So if we are wallowing in thoughts of misfortune and letting those thoughts permeate our bodies, we will continue to vibrate on a low level, attracting more of what we don’t want.

One of the easiest ways to counteract the attraction of more negativity is to practice gratitude. Practicing gratitude on a daily basis will work to align you easily with feelings of abundance. Those feelings of abundance will generate thoughts of happiness and alignment, opening yourself to receive more of what you do want into your life

Pretty simple right?

Easy Ways To Practice Gratitude

Start Simple

Depending on where you are in your journey, it can sometimes be very difficult to see what there is in your life to be grateful for. Try writing out 5 things  of the simplest things you are grateful for. For example;

  1. I am grateful for the weather today, it was sunny and it made me feel nice
  2. I am grateful for my dog. He is so sweet and his spirit makes me smile and comforts me
  3. I am grateful to have shelter. I am warm and I am safe and I have somewhere to sleep tonight
  4. I am grateful for my morning cup of coffee. I love taking that first sip
  5. I am grateful for my body’s mobility. I have two legs and two arms that work and I can serve myself physically

SO simple! But when you review it, you realize that the above 5 simple things are not available to everyone. Even the weather can hinder people who do not have shelter.

Build On That

Each day, try adding on 5 more things to your list. You will find it becomes easier and easier to establish gratitude as the days go on.

Do A Page A Day

Once you are in the practice of finding gratitude in smaller things, try journaling and letting your mind take lead. Put your pen to paper and don’t think too much about it. Start writing down everything in life you are grateful. Practice this regularly.

Meditate

After you have established a practice of expressing and acknowledging gratitude, try incorporating meditation into your daily gratitude routine. Even 5 minutes a day will help clear your mind and allow feelings of gratitude to better permeate your being. Acknowledge your feelings and give them time to resonate within you.

Self-Care and Self-Love

As you are the most important person in your life, practicing daily self-care and love will show the universe that you believe you are worthy for the gifts you are calling in. Love yourself and treat yourself with great kindness. Be grateful for your mind, your body and your beautiful soul. Try telling yourself at least once a day what you love about you. Give yourself the proper nourishment, exercise and care you need and deserve.

After gratitude becomes a habit in your life, you will find more reasons to be grateful will come your way with ease. Get ready to welcome them with grace and love.

5 Powerhouse Natural Beauty Oils You Need In Your Life Product Collage

While this is an article about natural beauty oils, it actually starts with a journey to find a cruelty-free, vegan solution for long, lustrous lashes. Last year, a Canadian brand called Luna Nectar manifested its way into our vortex with claims that it could provide a “Moon Boost” for lashes. We were sold before we even opened the cute little box.

Not only was the branding and eco-sustainable packaging on point, but the product also worked, delivering stronger, fuller lashes with daily use.

So when Luna Nectar announced a new all-natural skincare product, Heliophilia (a word that means addicted to the sun), we were intrigued to learn more. This combination skin and hair serum claims to address inflammation, redness, severe dryness, and skin concerns relating to transepidermal water loss, with a strong infusion of 15 powerful natural oils and serums including Squalane, Baobab, Meadowfoam, Seabuckthorn), Camellia and Rosehip.

We spoke with founder Mia Fiona Kut to get the scoop on what the best natural oils for our skin and to learn little bit more on how Luna Nectar was founded.

How did Luna Nectar come to be?

Luna Nectar was born out of a need for an all-natural alternative to a chemical lash serum that my sister was using! While the serum worked, I was concerned about the side effects my sister was experiencing, and when I found out that many women and young girls were using these types of chemical products, I was shocked. With my lifelong relationship with herbal medicines and holistic wellness, I set on a journey to create a 100% natural, vegan, and organic solution.

What inspired your new product Heliophilia?

To put it simply, a change occurred in my skin, probably due to age. I was experiencing eczema again after about 10 years of being completely free of it. My skin was becoming very dry, as if the barrier was cracked. I needed a solution to combat these issues, and to my surprise, Heliophilia turned out to be very helpful for combination and oily skin as well, and also fading scars!

What are the top five best natural oils for your skin?

Squalane – Gives your skin that extra strength protective barrier.

Rosehip – chock full of vitamin A, C, and essential fatty acids, which really help to refresh and add a glow to the complexion. It penetrates very deeply and increases collagen production

Argan –  it’s so lightweight yet rich, and full of vitamin E which definitely helps with fine lines

Meadowfoam – the lightweight, more environmentally friendly cousin of jojoba oil (it is typically grown as a rotation crop). It helps with anti-aging, and contains over 98% fatty acids. Softens the skin and penetrates deeply without being greasy.

Hemp Seed – protects the skin from free radicals, and with anti-inflammatory properties, it is excellent for treating TEWL conditions such as eczema and psoriasis

The Loving Layers of Agate Blog Image

With the moon in Cancer and the intense cosmic happens occurring this month (a solar eclipse, a supermoon, a blood moon, etc.) many of us are computing these cosmic energies into highly emotional vibrations. Whether you’re feeling sad, tense, irritable, nervous or uncertain, agate is recognized for its loving ability to help us get grounded and focused.

Agate stones can be identified by their stunning layers and signature bands, with an appearance akin to marble. Agate comes in a range of beautiful colours such as blue, green, grey, red, brown and yellow. It is a stone that is deeply connected to the Earth and vibrates at a slow and steady pace, making it an ideal crystal for balancing and harmonizing our chakras. In fact, different colours of agate vibrate and align with certain chakras. And while some colours will soothe and open up certain energy flows within the body, agate in any colour can help us find our balance in times of trouble or unease.

The slower vibration of agate makes it an excellent crystal for daily use, offering a soothing presence that can help us centre when we feel scattered or unfocused. It is a great crystal for when you are feeling overwhelmed as it will not overstimulate or interfere with our internal frequencies, but rather help us align with a more steady energy, stabilizing the aura and bring a sense of calm and harmony.

Beautiful Ways to Incorporate Agate into your Day-to-Day
